Texan Makes Donation for Cloquet Fire Victims

TEXAS MAN MAKES $1000 GIFT TO SUPPORT CLOQUET FIRE VICTIMS

When an Enbridge Energy worker from Texas called the Northland American Red Cross and donated $1,000 to assist 11 families, who lost their homes and belongings in a Cloquet apartment building fire earlier this month, it was a welcome surprise.

"To have someone who lives across the country make such a generous gift to help families here in Minnesota is just wonderful," said Red Cross executive director, J. Hanne Gonzalez.

Daryl R. Howell, of Baytown, Texas is a safety inspector working for Superior's Enbridge Energy. He was on a jobsite in Cloquet when he heard about the Red Cross disaster response on a local radio station and decided to get involved.

"I heard about the fire and had to help," Howell said. I don't like to see people down on their luck. It could happen to anyone, and I wanted to do something to help them along."

"I just want to thank the Northland American Red Cross for all their hard work and support to help these people, as well," Howell added.

Northland American Red Cross volunteers have been assisting the Carlton county families with services that include temporary housing and financial support for such things as food, clothing, prescription eyeglasses, and school supplies.
