County Lease for New Police Station

The St. Louis County board is expected to discuss a land lease for the new Duluth Police department headquarters, at their meeting on Tuesday.

The new station is likely going to be built next to the almost new county public safety building off Arlington Avenue.

Design plans are not final, so the county isn't sure if the city building will be attached to the front, side, or garage area.

The proposed lease is being kept generic for now. One thing is that the city and county would share the cost of re-doing the driveway and road to the shared facility.

Also, the city would move squads out of their leased space in the county's government services center. The county could add 30 parking spots, and increase revenue by $16,000 per year because of them.

The Minnesota Workforce Center is likely to move out of the county's Government Services Building, and into where the police station is now. They would then pay the city for rent, in what would be renovated office space.

The Duluth City Council is expected to hire an architect to design the project, at Monday night's meeting.
