Superior Spartans

"It's basically win or go home. we don't really have much of a choice," said Superior Senior Captain Kellen McCoshen. Thursday night the Spartans will play their final regular season game against Eau Claire North. It'll be an emotional game with the outcome determining if the season lives or dies. "If we lose it's over for us and our goal this week is to win at all costs, get into the playoffs and we're going to make a run at it," added McCoshen.
It's been a trying season for the 3-5 Spartans. "We've been up and down, inconsistencies, injuries, youth, you know we battle a lot of different things," said head coach Bob DeMeyer. But the team is still in a place where they control their own destiny. The Spartans use themes every week to help them focus on their goals. "And this week it is win, and it stands for what is important now. And we know what's important now is the playoff birth or this game ahead of us," said DeMeyer. "Throughout the season we've built on a lot of character traits and this week we're going to put them all together and we're going to get into the playoffs with them," said McCoshen.
A meeting with Coach DeMeyer at the beginning of the week set the bar high for the work ahead. "We got kind of emotional, talked about what we need to do and so I think the biggest thing we're looking for is having a lot of intensity during practice," said Ryan O'Neill.
The game may or may not go their way, but the Seniors will surely take with them much more than the scores and highlights. "A lot of life lessons, a lot of character qualities. I've learned throughout the years coaches not only do they want us to win and succeed as a football team but they want us to become better men," declared Jordan Butera. "I'm sure we'll be on the field for awhile after the game win or lose but we just gotta keep our heads up no matter what and get excited to go to place and take it to them," finished off Senior Ethan Taylor.
