Fuel Regulation on Hold

Port officials said the proposed regulation for the shipping industry concerning fuel, is now on hold.

The federal EPA wants to change sulfur emission rules for vessels. Those changes would require overhauls of engine systems, that could cost $22 million per ship.

Local officials lobbied for more time and study on the rule. And the EPA has said they will do that, and that perhaps the Great Lakes region will be exempt anyways.
