Updated at: 10/04/2009 11:15 PM Fallen Firefighters HonoredFamilies and firefighters from across the United States gathered Sunday morning to honor 103 firefighters who died last year. A Pine City man, born in Two Harbors, was among the fallen. Jeremy Jylka is one of 98 men and 5 women remembered at the 28th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Service in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The firefighter's names were added to a white stone monument at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg. 34 year old Jylka died April 29th last year after suffering a medical problem enroute to a grass fire. Since 1881, 187 Minnesota firefighters have died in the line of duty. Governor Tim Pawlenty ordered flags to be flown at half staff Sunday, honoring Minnesota Fallen firefighters Memorial Day. |
