Essar Steel Update

The Minnesota Court of Appeals said a lawsuit involving Essar Steel Minnesota, is without merit.

Environmental groups had challenged Essar's permitting, saying state agencies didn't look closely enough at the potential effects of global warming.

An Itasca County judge had disagreed and dismissed the lawsuit. The court of appeals has affirmed that decision.

Essar is the large mining-through-steelmaking plant that's under construction in Nashwauk.

In related news, the closing date of Itasca County's large land sale to Essar has been pushed back till December 15th, so the parties can work out more details.
