Updated at: 09/04/2009 10:06 AM Fabian and Bobby Vee Concert for Former Police OfficerBobby Vee and Fabian's music is a blast from the past. And come October 3rd in Virginia, it will be front and center for a special reason. The men will be singing in honor of John Kauppinen, a 20-year veteran of the Virginia Police Department. Kauppinen also taught law enforcement classes at the Hibbing Community College. He passed away October 3, 2006, of heart disease. His widow, Marlene, grieves deeply for him. But two years ago, she felt a flutter of hope, at a Bobby Vee and Fabian concert at Fortune Bay. "He pulled me on stage, and I felt a connection, like John's spirit was there. Fabian's father was a police officer who died of a heart attack, and we just connected," she said. The two exchanged letters. Then, Marlene asked if Fabian and Bobby Vee would perform a concert, to help raise money for scholarships in John's name. They agreed, and are coming to Virginia on October 3, 2009. That's the three year anniversary of John's death. "We'll celebrate his life," Marlene said. The concert is at 7:30pm, at the Goodman Auditorium in the high school. You need tickets in advance.
