After reviewing requests from environmental groups, the DNR has made their decision. There will not be an extended public comment period for the draft dam safety and public waters work permits.

According to the agency, the comment period will end October 16th, as originally announced.

Environmental groups had asked for more time, saying that 30 days isn't long enough to submit adequate responses. The groups include: WaterLegacy, the Center for Biological Diversity, Friends of the Cloquet Valley State Forest, the Izaak Walton League, and the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy.

The DNR said in a press release that they reviewed and considered the requests, but have determined the 30 days will stand.

PolyMet needs almost two dozen permits from state and federal agencies for their precious metals venture.
