As we've reported, Cliffs acquired about 4,000 acres of both mineral and surface rights from Glacier Park Iron Ore Properties.

The company sent a statement about the new signs: "Cleveland-Cliffs is securing its purchased and leased properties on the Nashwauk site.  Our main concern is for public safety. Erecting signage is standard company practice and protocol for securing the perimeters of our land and operations."

A competing company run by Chippewa Capital Partners and Tom Clarke plans on finishing the former Essar project and putting a DRI facility there as well. Chippewa has a list of conditions to meet in order to be reissued the state mineral leases.
