"With the Powerball jackpot over half a billion dollars, there sure is a lot of excitement in Wisconsin," Wisconsin Lottery Director Cindy Polzin said in a press release. "It may be cold outside, but the jackpot is hot! If you are going to play Powerball, we encourage you to have fun, but certainly play responsibly."

Despite Law Changes Lottery Winners Will Face Big Tax Bills

While the jackpot gets the most attention, there are other prizes to be won in Powerball. Prizes range from $4 for matching just the Powerball to $1 million for matching all five numbers, but not the Powerball.

No winning tickets were sold for the $460 million Powerball drawing on Wednesday. The winning numbers selected Wednesday night were 2, 18, 37, 39 and 42, and the Powerball number was 12.

How to Play

  • Tickets must be purchased by 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday to be included in the drawing:
  • Each ticket costs $2 per play
  • Choose five different numbers 1 to 69 and one Powerball number 1 to 26
  • Sign your ticket and check it as soon as possible to avoid missing out on any prize you may have won

Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million.

Lottery players also can vie for another giant prize. The jackpot for the Mega Millions lottery game has climbed to $450 million, just hours before the drawing. The top prize was raised ahead of the drawing Friday night.
