Dayle Patterson, CEO of Lake Superior Community Health Clinic, and Leadership Team Member Courtney Swalboski joined us to share what's in store this week.

Dayle says there are 1,300 health centers nationwide and 9,000 separate locations. They primarily serve low-income, uninsured and underinsured patients. Some centers also focus on helping patients experiencing homelessness.

"We serve over 23 million Americans, which means that one in 14 people who access the health care system come to a community health center," she says.

The Lake Superior Community Health Center has locations on Grand Avenue in Duluth, and Tower Avenue in Superior. They offer both primary and preventive medical services, including dental and behavioral care.

Dayle says they also have connections with Essentia Health and St. Luke's, giving them the ability to refer patients for specialty care and hospital care.

"We have a health care coach, we have care coordination, and a health care access office so we can help people enroll in medical assistance or find other insurance," she adds.

This week is all about raising awareness of those services with National Health Center Week.

Courtney says they have a number of events planned, starting with a special competition for kids.

"We have a coloring contest for our younger patients, so we're super excited to see what they can do for us," she explains, adding that the public is also welcome to visit the center on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for Patient Appreciation Day.

The center plans to have goodie bags, cupcakes, and more information on patient services.

Lake Superior Community Health Center accepts walk-in patients for medical services. Call 218-722-1497 or visit their website to learn more.
